WordPress 6.1.1 - OK to Update

We had been holding off on updating WordPress to 6.1.1 due to rumors of bug fixes being released in version 6.1.2. However, the core team decided that the few bugs in 6.1.1 didn’t need fixing immediately, so they’ve pushed those fixes to version 6.2, which is anticipated to be released at the end of this month.

This means…

IF WE MANAGE YOUR UPDATES

We’ll be updating your site to WordPress 6.1.1 this week.

IF YOU MANAGE YOUR OWN UPDATES

It’s safe to update to WordPress core 6.1.1 if you haven’t already. As always, be safe and let UpdraftPlus run a backup before you proceed.

Issue

WordPress 6.1.1, a “bug fix” for the recently released 6.1, has a planned release date of this Friday, November 11, 2022.

Because it’s Q4, the number of bugs and plugin conflicts seen so far with 6.1, and the speed with which this minor version is being released, if you handle your own updates, we STRONGLY recommend you do not update your site to 6.1.1 (or 6.1).

If our team handles your updates, we still do not plan to update sites to any version of WordPress 6.1 until January. Depending on how 6.1.1 performs, we may wait to update sites until the release of 6.1.2, which is tentatively planned for the end of January.

Our current recommended version of WordPress is 6.0.3.

*If your site has been updated to 6.1 and you’re not seeing any issues, we recommend waiting until next week to consider updating further to 6.1.1.
